Ultrasound
Diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound guided injections
Ultrasound machines, like the one used by Dr. Patrick McDonough, has two functions. Ultrasound technology can be used for diagnostic purposes or injection guidance. The technology enables physicians to see their patients’ anatomy in real time for diagnosing an injury or placing an injection.
This is a great tool for any active patient as it can be used while the patient is demonstrating the movements that cause pain, helping to form an accurate diagnosis without high end imaging costs. It also helps to ensure accuracy when performing injections. Ultrasound is painless and uses no radiation. Physicians and patients see their anatomy on a screen at the same time, allowing better patient education or teamwork in developing a care plan.
